“No undeserved victory”

The Lilies also collect three points from the strongest home team in the league – as the first away team to date. The two goal scorers Philipp Förster and Fabian Nürnberger enhanced a mature, concentrated team performance. After the game, the two coaches as well as Philipp Förster and Fabian Nürnberger looked at the previous 90 minutes between the Lilies and Hannover 96.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„It was a bit of the expected game. Hannover 96 is extremely well organised and defends extremely well. We knew what a difficult task awaited us. And that was it. We had control of the game for the first 25 minutes and also had one or two chances , where we might find a wrong decision. The 0-0 at half time was okay after the break. We knew that we would not get too many chances and we took advantage of that. Then we got the equaliser much too quickly after a set piece. We also have a huge double chance through Lidberg and Lakenmacher. At the end, Hannover obviously pressed again, but we defended it very maturely and well. It wasn’t a game that made me say that Darmstadt 98 always has to win here. But it’s not an undeserved victory either.“

Stefan Leitl:

„Congratulations to Florian and his team on the win, I completely agree with him in the analysis. In the first 20 minutes we weren’t on the field as we would have liked, Darmstadt did well. In the 20 minutes We were better before half-time, so the 0-0 result at half-time was absolutely okay. We conceded 0-1 in a phase in which we were, in my opinion, better in the game. We responded with 1-1 and we had the momentum on our side, but we conceded 1-2 due to small things in the decision-making. Ron-Robert Zieler saved well twice, but we also had actions that we could have played much better. It’s a very painful defeat as I believe a draw would have been fair.“

Philipp Förster:

„We played good football at times in the first half, but at times we lacked penetration. But it wasn’t that easy to get through against the best defence in the league. After Hannover’s quick 1-1 draw, we took the lead again. We want to take the flow with us into the next week. We’re happy about the win, but from Monday we’re looking forward to the next game, especially because we also know what situation we were in at the beginning of the season.“

Fabian Nürnberger:

„It’s just a lot of fun at the moment. We knew that Hannover were very strong at home and that a tough game awaited us, which we certainly wouldn’t dominate for 90 minutes. It turned out to be the game we had expected. But it was very well done and after the 2-1 win, we didn’t just put ourselves at the back, we also finished the game cleanly.“
