Remembering the dead | Darmstadt players support food distribution

While SV Darmstadt 98 commemorated its deceased members on Remembrance Sunday at Karl-Heß-Platz, the professional players made a strong statement of solidarity at Europaplatz, supporting the food distribution for homeless people. You can read about these and other topics in our weekly column "Lilies Across the Board".

+++ Honouring the dead +++

On Remembrance Sunday, SV Darmstadt 98 commemorated those who had accompanied and enriched the club and the lives of its members at Karl-Heß-Platz. Special recognition was given to club members who had passed away in the past year. Vice President Volker Harr, along with Gerda Krüger and Peter Schmidt from the Council of Elders, spoke on behalf of SV 98.

+++ Food handover +++

On Sunday (November 23rd), Darmstadt 98 players Yōsuke Furukawa, Leon Klassen, Bartosz Bialek, and Merveille Papela supported the „Helping the Homeless in Darmstadt“ initiative and distributed hot meals to those in need. At Europaplatz, they handed out goulash and potato soup and took time for personal conversations. Club president Markus Pfitzner was also present and emphasised the importance of the initiative: „When you see how many people are standing on the streets here, how they are cold and hungry, then you know this is the right cause we’re supporting. That’s why we’re committed to this long-term, because there’s more poverty in our city than people care to admit!“

+++ Christmas atmosphere at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor+++

+++ Another tough defeat +++

The SV Darmstadt 98 second team suffered another defeat this weekend. They lost their match 5-0 and thus remain without a point.

Despite this setback, the focus is on the future: The next challenge awaits today. The Lilies will face sixth-placed Darmstadt TSG II. Kick-off for the second team is at 7:30pm on the artificial turf pitch on Ostendstraße, 64319 Pfungstadt.

+++ U21 +++

On Sunday (November 30th), Daniel Petrowsky’s team travels to SV Rot-Weiss Walldorf. The U21s face the ninth-placed team in the league and face a challenging match. Kick-off is at 3:30pm in Walldorf.

+++ eFootballers reach quarterfinals at the Offline Showdown +++

The second showdown is complete! On Sunday, our eLilien team competed in the offline knockout phase in Frankfurt, where the winner of the event was determined among the top 16 teams. In the round of 16, they faced Preußen Münster. After a narrow 3-4 defeat in the first leg, the team showed a strong response in the second leg and celebrated a commanding 6-3 victory. With an aggregate score of 9-7, the Lilies deservedly advanced to the quarterfinals.

There, FC St. Pauli awaited them – and in the end, the eLilien were narrowly defeated. Nevertheless, the team can be proud of their performance and finished the offline event among the top eight teams. Incidentally, FC St. Pauli went on to win the showdown. The online preliminary rounds of the third showdown will take place on December 11th and 16th. The eLilien want to give it their all again to qualify for the next offline knockout round in Köln.

+++ Happy Birthday, Marco! +++

Not only an important factor for SV Darmstadt 98 on the pitch, but also in the spotlight off the field this week: Marco Richter celebrated his 28th birthday on Monday. We send our warmest congratulations to our attacking player on his special day – all the best, good health, and a successful new year!

Dear Marco, we hope you were able to enjoy your Monday and recharge your batteries. Now the focus is fully on the next challenge: the away game in Elversberg. Best of luck – together for the Lilies!

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

Opposition Check: Karlsruher SC

Left hook, 'One hundred and eightyyyyyyy', and hand over the baton. Doesn't sound like football – and that's true. KSC is often associated with professional football, but with the sheer number of titles the club has won, it's worth looking beyond the pitch. Titles from Baden-Württemberg to Rome.
