“There could have been more”

SV Darmstadt 98 lost 2-1 (1-1) to 1. FC Köln after a tough match. Following the at times wild encounter, Florian Kohfeldt, Clemens Riedel, and Marcel Schuhen discussed the game. We've compiled all the comments from the match for you.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„Congratulations to FC on their home win. It was an exciting and eventful game, but after a minute, I wasn’t in a particularly good mood. My team’s reaction after going behind was very good; we remained emotionally stable. We had a slight advantage until halftime, without being dominant. Köln made a change after the break, which we struggled with for a moment, but then we changed things ourselves and regained control. We played with great passion while outnumbered. Nevertheless, it’s another game in which we didn’t get enough points for our performance. Overall, my team’s morale was very good, but they lacked a bit of cleverness.“

Gerhard Struber:

„We got off to a great start with the goal and were in control for the first ten minutes. But then we lost our way. With the penalty, we played into the opponent’s hands and brought them back into the game. We didn’t develop the control we had hoped for. We then made some changes at halftime, including with new personnel. We invested a lot, and the numerical advantage played into our hands. But we also built up this momentum. We still had many chances that we should have finished much better. Marvin Schwäbe had to save us from Vukotic in the 98th minute. Overall, I think we worked hard for the win, but we also deserved it.“

Marcel Schuhen:

„The start wasn’t good, of course. Falling behind after a minute wasn’t good. What we did after that was very good. Köln didn’t have many opportunities and had few ideas about how to create chances. We had a good plan, which was rewarded with a period of pressure and the penalty. In the second half, FC changed things up, but we were still the better team. It became difficult with ten men, but Köln still needed a penalty to score. Otherwise, we defended well. And we even had a great chance through Vuko in the 98th minute. Even with ten men, we could have done better.“

Clemens Riedel:

„The sending off was certainly painful for us, because we obviously had to play differently after that. It was a tough fight, 8:30pm, and in the end, we suffered a bitter defeat. Being behind after a minute was a difficult start, but after that, we showed a good reaction and always knew we had something in it. We’ll work on this game as well and then want to play well against Ulm. We still need a few points.“
