The Lilies dominated the game for long stretches and had more possession, but initially they were unable to pose any clear goal threats. Weidenhausen, on the other hand, remained dangerous on the counterattack and from set pieces – and took advantage of one in the 22nd minute to take the lead: as the ball was converted at the far post – 0-1. Despite the setback, coach Petrowsky’s team tried to maintain control and were rewarded shortly before halftime: Makridis scored to make it 1-1.
After the break, the Lilies pressed for the win, putting in a strong attack but rarely finding the decisive space. Instead, Weidenhausen proved their efficiency again: In the 59th minute, they capitalised on another attack to regain the lead. Despite their best efforts, Darmstadt could not turn the game around.
After this bitter defeat, SV 98’s U21 team sits sixth in the Lotto Hessenliga with 53 points. Next, after a short week, the Junglilien will kick off the season finale at home against SV Steinbach on Saturday (May 17th/3pm).
