U21 suffers last-minute defeat

A bitter afternoon and defeat for the SV Darmstadt 98 U21 team. The young Lilies lost 3-2 to SC 1960 Hanau on matchday 32 of the Lotto Hessenliga. Although the blue and whites demonstrated their ability to stage comebacks twice on Sunday (May 4), they were defeated shortly before the final whistle due to a late goal. After last week’s 1-0 win away at Hornau, the U21s were looking to build on their home ground in Alsbach. However, the young Lilies struggled to get into the game against SC 1960 Hanau. The visitors took a 1-0 lead after 21 minutes. „But the boys handled the goal well,“ said U21 coach Daniel Petrowsky, praising his team’s mentality. They increasingly dug deeper into the game and created good scoring opportunities. However, they failed to score again before the break.

Lack of luck in the match, easy goals conceded

Less than two minutes after the break, Nico Baier equalised for the Junglilien. However, the 1-1 score didn’t last long, as Hanau took the lead again in the 55th minute. „We managed to come back twice and were actually closer to making it 3-2,“ emphasised Petrowsky. His team demonstrated its comeback capabilities for the second time on Sunday afternoon with Georgios Makridis’s goal on 78 minutes.

However, Darmstadt missed further good opportunities for a last-minute home victory. Instead, the visitors proved more efficient in front of goal and scored the decisive winner two minutes before the end of regulation time, making the final score 3-2. Petrowsky summed it up: „Especially offensively, we lacked the necessary luck today. Defensively, it’s unfortunately too easy to score against us at the moment.“

After the defeat, SV 98’s U21 team is in sixth place in the Hessenliga table with 53 points. Four matchdays remain this season, with the next one taking the young Lilies to SV Weidenhausen. Darmstadt will play there next Saturday (May 10th), kicking off at 3pm.

Line-Up: Rohde – Arania, Pfister, Crößmann, Arnold, Grbić, Ballmert, Held, Schlosser ( Kuhlmann, 61), Makridis, Baier (Klappich, 79).
