U21 wins top match

Things are looking good for the SV Darmstadt 98 U21 team. In a top-of-the-table clash, U21 coach Daniel Petrowsky's team achieved another notable victory in the LOTTO Hessenliga. The young Lilies won decisively 3-0 against RW Walldorf on Saturday (March 29).

The Lilies‘ will to win was palpable from the start. The U21 team was particularly solid defensively: The visitors from Walldorf found little hope of penetrating their compact defence and created only a few scoring opportunities throughout the match. With great discipline and concentration, Darmstadt kept their goal clean – laying the foundation for their eventual success.

Upfront, the young Lilies played with pace and good passing. The 1-0 lead came from a spectacular combination in the 13th minute: Grgić played a precise pass deep to Schlosser, who calmly converted to give the home side the lead.

SV 98 added another before the break. Thanks to vigorous pressing, the Lilies won possession in the opposing half, and Schlosser coolly slotted the ball home for his brace (24th minute). The Lilies continued to push, not content with the scoreline and increasing the pressure.

The decisive moment came immediately after the break: After 48 minutes, a cleverly executed free kick from Held found Ballmert deep, who passed it to Makridis, who confidently finished to make it 3-0.

With the win, the U21s close the gap to their direct rivals RW Walldorf to just one point. On Saturday (April 5), the Young Lilies hope to continue their good form away at league leaders FSV Fernwald.

That was a very mature performance from our young team. We can be pleased with how confident we appeared overall in this top match.

Daniel Petrowsky, head coach of the U21 team, told sv98.de

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.
