The LH1160 aircraft will take off from Frankfurt Airport on Sunday (January 5th) at 9:40am towards Spain – more precisely to Valencia. On board the plane: The Lilies, who are making their way to the winter training camp in El Saler. For the fourth time, the professionals from SV Darmstadt 98 are heading to the small town south of Valencia. And again the team goes to the “Parador de El Saler” hotel, which has some highlights. In addition to a top football facility right next to the hotel and a well-equipped fitness room, it also has, among other things, a golf course where some people could pass the free time between training sessions. However, the focus is on good preparation for the new year. The team will be on the pitch every day in front of a fantastic Mediterranean backdrop and will train hard in order to be well prepared for the 17 games in the second half of the season. The training camp ends with the test match on Saturday (January 11th), when the Lilies take on Swiss first division club FC St. Gallen for a dress rehearsal before the start of the second half of the season. Kick-off is at 1pm.

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.
