“We lost order”

SV Darmstadt 98 lost 4-1 at 1. FC Magdeburg on Sunday (March 2). The South Hesse team lost against the third-placed team in the 2nd Bundesliga despite leading 1-0. The Darmstadt protagonists were accordingly disappointed at the microphones after the final whistle. We have summarised all the voices about the game for you.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„Congratulations to Christian and the FCM on the home win. Up until the 1-1 draw, there was nothing to indicate this victory; up until then we had played an outstanding game. If we consistently take advantage of our chances, then we can lead 3-0, maybe even 4-0. I have to blame the team for losing order after the 1-1 draw, which was already an individual mistake. And then a team like Magdeburg is in a position to punish something like that. In the end, 4 – 1 is of course very high, but we have ourselves to blame for that because of the last half hour. That’s a shame for us, but it’s also a big compliment to Magdeburg, who could have won the game before, but that wasn’t the big difference today.“

Christian Titz:

„We have had this type of game more often this season. An opponent who is good at switching, stands deep and is difficult to play against. In the first half we only had one chance through Kaars. After the break we wanted to do things significantly differently. But we were still in our rut from the first half and played a lot of bad passes. Dominik Reimann also kept us in the game. With the 1-1 we got the upper hand, the statics changed and it became a different game. After After making it 2-1, we had the feeling that we were going to win this game today. What was important was that we were relentless and scored the third goal. Otherwise, this game could have gone the other way.“

Marcel Schuhen:

„We defended really well and compactly until it was 1-1 and drove Magdeburg a little crazy. We were in the lead, the stadium became a little restless and we had a chance to make it 2-0. After the equaliser – where we had to draw a foul – we completely lost order and couldn’t hold our positions anymore. Then it becomes difficult against an opponent like that. We didn’t want to play wild football, but after the 60th minute it got wild. That wasn’t the plan. And rightly so, because we saw what was happening. We were pulled too far apart and then Magdeburg did really well.“

Andreas Müller:

„We are very disappointed, especially because we did brutally well in the first half. We hardly allowed Magdeburg any chances. Then we came out of the break well. We had a good ten to 15 minutes after the break in which we ran towards the goal a few times with the advantage. If you make it 2-0 and kill the opponent, it will be difficult for Magdeburg to come back again. At 1-1 we would have had to draw a tactical foul. Then why did we do that in the end? Falling apart is difficult to explain.“
