‚Can build on this performance‘

SV 98 remains undefeated in their fourth consecutive home game at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor, this time against fifth-placed Magdeburg. Here are some post-match comments:

Florian Kohfeldt:

„I think we can live with the point a little less than expected, though the draw wasn’t completely undeserved. In the first half hour, we didn’t manage to find the pressing triggers we had planned. At the same time, it’s true that we could have taken an early lead ourselves, with Marco’s chance hitting the post and Noah’s shot being cleared off the line. Conceding a goal from a set piece, where we defended zonally without discipline, is obviously frustrating.

On the positive side, we’re now managing to stay stable, stay in the game, and make adjustments. That’s not something to take for granted after our start to the season. As a result, we saw an evenly matched game right to the end, with both teams having their chances to win. I think we had a little more opportunity, even if the best chance in the end was perhaps the one-on-one.

I’m satisfied with this midweek fixture and with this game. We showed what’s essential for this club and what we need to build on right now: a A passionate team that throws itself into everything. I’ve also seen progress in their footballing skills, especially with the ball. These are things that give me hope.“

Petrik Sander:

„I think the first 20 to 30 minutes were characterised by a lot of possession. This was also due to Darmstadt sitting very deep and trying to close down the spaces. With the 1-0, it was clear that things would change and Darmstadt would have to adjust. As a result, we didn’t have as much time on the ball and had to make quicker decisions. The equaliser came in a situation where both teams were down to ten men. We obviously have to defend that better. Even so, scoring a goal like that with a backheel – hats off to that! I think both teams then tried to win the game. However, it wasn’t as if one chance followed another or one clear-cut opportunity after another. Towards the end, the game became a bit more hectic.“

Marco Richter:

„It’s a strange feeling after the game because we definitely had chances to win. In my opinion, a lucky break would have been fitting. Nevertheless, I believe we can build on this performance. We had many good moments and went into the game with great passion. We needed the first 20 minutes to really get into the game and bring a bit more composure to our play. After that, however, we put on a strong performance. I believe that our overall development is heading in the right direction. Going into games with such passion is the foundation. We want to build on that, and I hope it won’t be long before we can celebrate another three points.“

Raoul Petretta:

„Overall, it was a good week. We kept a clean sheet midweek and only conceded one goal today from a set piece. We were very dangerous from our own set pieces, and apart from the last attack, Magdeburg didn’t have any major scoring opportunities. We did need to regroup and get ourselves back together for the five to ten minutes after conceding. Before halftime, we had another five to seven good minutes where we played with more energy and passion. We definitely could have done more in the second half. At this stage of the season, and in a home game, I’d say we dropped two points. However, considering our current situation, I think we’ve gained more than we’ve lost.“
