Undefeated after the English week

No winner on matchday 10: Darmstadt and 1. FC Magdeburg drew 1-1 (1-1). Smit (37') scored for the visitors, who once again showed great commitment and determination. The point means Darmstadt remain unbeaten in their fourth consecutive home game.

In their home match against 1. FC Magdeburg, Darmstadt had an early double chance to take a 1-0 lead: First, Marco Richter made a good run into the penalty area, but his shot only hit the post. Noah Weißhaupt tried a curling effort immediately afterward, but it was cleared off the line in the 10th minute. The visitors were more clinical, and Müller scored with Magdeburg’s first shot on goal after a low corner kick, four minutes later.

In the following period, the visitors circulated the ball amongst themselves for long stretches. While they didn’t create any clear-cut chances, they kept Darmstadt away from their goal for extended periods.

In the final quarter of an hour of the half, the home side increased the tempo and were rewarded in the 37th minute with a spectacular equaliser: Richter and William Mikelbrencis combined well on the wing, and in the middle, Milan Smit cleverly backheeled Richter’s cross into the net to make it 1-1. Just a minute later, Mikelbrencis even had the opportunity to take the lead, but his diving header sailed wide of the post.

The closing stages of the first half became quite heated with chances for both sides, but no further goals were scored, and the teams went into the break with the score at 1-1.

After the restart, Darmstadt pressed for the opening goal. Just seconds had elapsed when Weishaupt unleashed a shot – but the keeper had no trouble with it. Three minutes later, Fynn Lakenmacher got a shot away after a cross appearing to be fouled in the process – however, the referee didn’t award a penalty. Shortly afterward, Patric Pfeiffer appeared in the opposing penalty area, beat his marker, but his shot was just blocked.

After that, the game was largely even, with no dangerous shots on goal from either side. It wasn’t until the 71st minute that things got really dangerous again, but Richter’s effort only landed on the roof of the net.

In the final minutes, Magdeburg created another chance, but Aleksandar Vukotic prevented Manthey from getting a shot off with seven minutes remaining. On the other side, Darmstadt repeatedly sent crosses into the penalty area, but ultimately none of them resulted in another goal, and so the match ended in a draw.
