Lilies win in Walldorf
SV Darmstadt 98 won their fourth pre-season friendly. The Lilies defeated regional league side FC-Astoria Walldorf 4-1 (0-0) after 120 minutes.
Guille Bueno answered journalists' questions in a media round on Wednesday (March 12). He spoke, among other things, about the rhythm of the game and the interaction with Killian Corredor on the left flank. This week continues with a panel discussion on structural sexism and sexualised violence in men's football. "LILY - The Contact Point for Lilien Women" is inviting people to the event at the Darmstadt Fan Project to raise awareness of this important topic. We will also be reporting on the successful week for the Lilien youth teams. You can read about these and other topics in our weekly column "Lilien Across the Board."
Having a good feeling on the pitch – that’s what Guille Bueno is all about when he plays for the Lilies. He’s been able to develop precisely this feeling over the past few weeks, having recently regularly deputised for the suspended Fabian Nürnberger. „At first, I didn’t have such a good feeling on the pitch because I was lacking in rhythm,“ Bueno summarised in a media briefing on Wednesday afternoon (March 12). „But that’s changed now, after being able to play a lot in the last few weeks,“ said the Spaniard, who emphasised, with a view to the competitive situation at the Lilies: „Let’s see what happens when Fabi comes back. I can help the team in many positions.“ He particularly enjoyed his interaction with Killian Corredor on the left flank in the 3-0 home win against Karlsruher SC: „It’s always fun on the pitch with Killian. He sets the pace and always wants to play forward – just like me.“
Which structures encourage discrimination, and how can they be addressed? In an open discussion, „LILY – The Contact Point for Lilien Women“ and journalist Mara Pfeiffer will explore the mechanisms of structural sexism in football clubs, the working environment in football, and within fan communities. They will discuss challenges, share their own experiences, and jointly explore possible courses of action. You can follow and participate in the discussion on Thursday (March 13) at 7:30pm at the Darmstadt Fan Project (Erbacher Straße 1).
A milestone for the guys with the controllers! Last week, the eLilien celebrated the greatest success in their history. With a decisive 2-0 victory over Karlsruher SC, the Darmstadt team secured a spot in the playoffs with one match before the end of the league season. „We’ve reached the top 8 and we’re overjoyed. Now we have one more game against Stuttgart, and then we’re off to Düsseldorf. And we’ll just see what’s possible and give it our best,“ said a delighted Coach Louis.
Kaan and Nassim narrowly won the doubles match against KSC 2-1. Nassim sealed the deal in the subsequent singles match with a decisive 10-3 victory. The eLilien will try to gain some confidence for the playoffs in Düsseldorf on Wednesday (March 12th, 7pm) in the final league match of the season against VfB Stuttgart.
Darmstadt’s U19 team returns home with two away wins under their belt. First, the Young Lilies won decisively 5-0 against Spvgg. Neu-Isenburg in the main round of the DFB Youth League. A few days later, they faced league leaders SC Freiburg in a difficult away game, which SV 98 won 2-1. Thanks to these two victories, the young Lilies climbed to third place in the table.
In addition, the SV 98 U19 team played a friendly at home against Sano Nihon University Senior High School from Japan on Tuesday (March 11), also winning 3-0. The young Lilies now face FC Augsburg at home on March 22 at 11:00am. After a strenuous week of busy fixtures, the U19 team has truly earned its upcoming weekend break.
Last week was no less successful for the Junglilien U17 team: They won 2-0 away at VFB Ginsheim and advanced to the round of 16 of the Hessen Cup. The B-Juniors face ninth-placed Gonsenheim on Wednesday evening (March 12th, 7pm) in the main round of the DFB Youth League.
On Friday evening (March 7), Fraser Hornby wished San Antonio FC, the US-based partner club of the Lilies, much success for the start of the new season. The congratulations paid off: San Antonio FC kicked off the new season with a 1-0 win against Monterey Bay F.C. In front of a sold-out crowd at Toyota Field, the Texans dominated the attack in the first half, registering eleven shots on goal. In the 40th minute, Diogo Pacheco converted a free kick from Mitchell Taylor to score his first goal for the club in his debut. SAFC’s defense remained solid throughout the game and did not allow a single shot on goal from their opponents, thus completing their first game of the season without conceding a goal. The Lilies congratulate them on their opening win!
After the winter break and several friendly matches, the SV 98 fan base was finally back in action in the Kreisliga C. However, the „second second team“ could only manage a 2-2 draw away at TuS Griesheim. After the Lilies fell behind to a penalty goal in the 23rd minute, they quickly hit back and took the lead with a double strike in the 31st and 35th minutes. All signs pointed to victory, but Griesheim managed to score a last-minute goal in the 90th minute to make it 2-2. The fan base now faces table neighbours FC Ober-Ramstadt II on Sunday (March 16) at 12pm.

A fan friendship could hardly begin more romantically: It was Christmas 2007. Fans of SV Darmstadt 98 and BSC Young Boys were sitting next to each other in the stadium in Auxerre and started chatting – so far, so normal. The next day, the Darmstadt fans decided to watch another game in St. Etienne and met the Bernese tour group again – without having arranged it. Of course, this could still be considered coincidence, but when the two groups met again by chance in England a few weeks later and again a few weeks after that in Athens, both tour groups had to acknowledge that fate might have something in store for them.
Ultimately, they exchanged mobile phone numbers and invited each other to games in Darmstadt and Bern. Thus began the fan friendship between the Lilies and Young Boys. BSC Young Boys will celebrate its 127th anniversary on Friday (March 14). Unfortunately, things aren’t going quite as well as hoped for the team from Bern this season, currently in fifth place in the table. Nevertheless, we wish them continued success in the race for qualification for the championship round and congratulate our friends from Switzerland on their upcoming anniversary!
