Dreskovic in training | eLilien defeat Bayern Munich

Meldin Dreskovic trained with his new teammates for the first time on Wednesday (February 5) on the training ground at Böllenfalltor. We provide you with fresh impressions. While the fan team and the U21 are still preparing for the winter, things are really getting started again for the SV 98 youth teams. The U19s even played their first main round game in the newly founded DFB youth league and the eFootballers pulled off a big surprise on the last matchday. We also wish four Lilies a happy birthday. Everything summarised for you in our weekly section „Lilies across the Board“.

+++ eFootball team manages surprise +++

An offline matchday in the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) took place in Stuttgart last Thursday (January 30th). With FC Bayern Munich, the eLilien expected a real opponent against them. The Munich team traveled to Stuttgart with a clean slate (8 wins and 2 draws), but suffered their first defeat of the current season against SV 98. A draw in the two-on-two, a victory for the Lilies in the first singles by Nassim and a spectacular 8:8 by Kaan in the last duel made the surprise perfect. With the win under their belt, the eFootballers of SV Darmstadt 98 are in seventh place in the table and are therefore still fully in the race for the playoffs. The next task awaits the eLilien on Wednesday (February 5/9pm). Like the professionals, the eSports athletes also welcome SV Elversberg. For the guys at the controller it’s against their immediate neighbours in the table.

+++ All the best to you two! +++

On Tuesday (February 4th) Philipp Förster celebrated his birthday for the first time with the Lilien family – a very special one at that. The midfielder was happy about his 30th anniversary. We would like to wish you a happy belated birthday.

Another birthday boy this week is assistant coach Martin Heck. On Saturday (February 8th) everyone can celebrate his day together in the stadium, as the assistant coach will be celebrating his 42nd birthday on match day. The best gift? That would probably be three points against SV Elversberg…

+++ “Bodo Ballermann” celebrates his birthday +++

A Lily legend – known by the name Bodo “Ballermann” Mattern – celebrated his 67th birthday last Monday (February 3). Review. In 1981 he signed a contract with SV Darmstadt 98 for the first time. “It was a dream for me as a 21-year-old to be in the Bundesliga with Darmstadt.” “It was a great and successful time for me as a young player,” he said in a recent interview with the Lilienblog. Nevertheless, he moved on to Eintracht Frankfurt in 1983. After another stint at Blau-Weiß 90, “Bodo Ballermann” came back to southern Hesse, where he lives happily and contentedly to this day. In his two times in the Lilien shirt, Mattern made a total of 93 appearances in which he scored 38 goals. But even today he still wears the Lily on his chest – for the traditional SV 98 team. We wish you all the best and good health for your birthday!

+++ Former coach is a year older +++

From Schneppenhausen the path led via Weiterstadt to SV Darmstadt 98, where Bruno Labbadia initially demonstrated his footballing skills as a player. In 111 appearances with the Lily on his chest, the former center forward scored a total of 48 competitive goals. In 1987 he left Darmstadt for Hamburger SV. From there he went on to 1. FC Kaiserslautern, to Munich to Bayern, to the west to 1. FC Köln, to Bremen and Bielefeld and finally to Karlsruher SC, where he ended his playing career in 2003. The currently 58-year-old then started his coaching career with the Lilies. Under Labbadia’s leadership, the Darmstadt team rose up the league and the euphoria in the city grew. After three years, however, the collaboration with the head coach ended, who moved on to Fürth. Labbadia then traveled across the country: In addition to the Kleeblatt, he also coached Bayer Leverkusen, HSV, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg and Hertha BSC. Next Saturday (February 8th) Bruno Labbadia will celebrate his 59th birthday, on which we warmly congratulate him.

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.

Three points! SV Darmstadt 98's U21 team secured a victory in the Lotto Hessenliga on Saturday afternoon (May 2nd). In their match against Hünfelder SV, the young Lilies overcame an early deficit to clinch a convincing 3-1 win. This result puts the U21 team currently outside the relegation zone. A bitter end in Karlsruhe: After 90 entertaining minutes in which both teams sought salvation in attack, Darmstadt suffered a narrow defeat. The final score was 2-1 after a late goal from the home side, following Isac Lidberg's earlier equaliser. After the match, the players were particularly frustrated with the missed opportunities in the first half.

Opposition Check: Karlsruher SC

Left hook, 'One hundred and eightyyyyyyy', and hand over the baton. Doesn't sound like football – and that's true. KSC is often associated with professional football, but with the sheer number of titles the club has won, it's worth looking beyond the pitch. Titles from Baden-Württemberg to Rome.
