“Just have fun with this team”

+3 to SV Darmstadt 98’s points account! The Lilies won 3-1 (1-1) against Hertha BSC in the Merck Stadium at the Böllenfalltor and thus secured their third competitive win in the series. After a temporary 0-1 deficit, the Darmstadt team equalised before the break and then set the course for a home win in the second half of the game. Accordingly, the South Hesse team appeared happy at the microphones after the final whistle. We have compiled all the voices about the game for you.

Florian Kohfeldt:

„Hertha had a lot of injured and suspended players. That’s why it wasn’t really clear to us in preparation for the game what they were doing. You could see that at the beginning against the ball. We didn’t press through, but rather looked in the rearview mirror and then it became difficult to defend Hertha’s individual quality The defence was more busy. With the 2-1 we finished it very confidently and maturely. That speaks for the players that they didn’t let such a good Hertha team get them down.“

Christian Fiel:

„Congratulations to Darmstadt on the win. We’re coming into the game really well, we’re in great positions and we’re defending really well. It was important that we didn’t let Darmstadt have the center. We did a great job in the first half. We deserve to go in with the lead and also had the opportunity to score the second goal. We went into the break 1-1 and made it 2-1 after the break – so far I can’t say where the handball was. After that we weren’t so brave anymore. Things got better after the 2-1, but the opponent built up pressure. How we concede the goals in the end is too easy.“

Clemens Riedel:

„Hertha had one or two phases in the first half in which they put pressure on. We knew about their qualities, but we didn’t protect the counterattacks well. In the second half we did much better, defended better and then game turned around. We were able to use the offensive qualities we’ve shown in the last few weeks. It’s incredibly fun with this team, but we also know that we still have to continue to develop.

Isac Lidberg:

„My head is okay so far, I don’t really have any pain. I didn’t think about it during the game anyway, I just wanted to score when I scored. It was really difficult today, especially at the beginning, but it got better and better as the game progressed. We’re playing really good offensive football, things are going really well for us at the moment. We’re a good group that helps each other and it’s just fun with this team. It’s important that we keep looking from game to game.“

Andreas Müller:

„It was a lot of hard work. Individually, Hertha is one of the best teams in the league. Because of their many absences, we didn’t know how they would act until the game. They made it 1-0, but we knew what we had to do. It was a mentality thing – like in every game, we’re doing it well at the moment. Every team finds it disgusting to play against us. That’s exactly what we want, it’s very important at this stage of the game to ensure a two-goal lead.“

Disappointment & pride

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.
