“Take the point with you”

Control of the game and significantly more possession of the ball, but no goals. SV Darmstadt 98 added another point to their points account after the goalless draw against Preußen Münster. How do the Darmstadt protagonists classify the 0-0? What do the two head coaches say? We have summarised all the voices about the game for you.

Florian Kohfeldt:

“We had a lot of control for almost 90 minutes. However, we were unable to convert this control into compelling scoring opportunities. Even though we certainly had opportunities to score, like in the first half through Förster or after the break through Riedel. I am very satisfied with the defensive behavior. We hardly offered a mistake and allowed very few tricky moments. Overall, Münster earned the point through an outstanding defensive performance. On the other hand, we lacked that last shot of confidence on offense to win the game. We take the point and are happy about our first clean sheet of the season.”

Sascha Hildmann:

“We have big plans against the team of the moment from Darmstadt. We also had great respect. In the first half we made it difficult for Darmstadt to build up the game and didn’t allow this final scoring opportunity. In the second half we knew that a force was coming and we had to fight it with everything we had. And we defended outstandingly. Nevertheless, with Darmstadt’s quality, a ball can always slip through. Towards the end we freed ourselves very well. With the two top chances you might even be able to win a game like this. Overall, I am very satisfied with the team unity and passionate defense. Getting a 0-0 draw in Darmstadt is very good for us.”

Marcel Schuhen:

„Today’s game was reminiscent of the game against Ulm: a very, very deep opponent who was waiting for the space and just waiting for our mistakes. When the opponents start playing like that against us, it’s also a compliment for us. We had the game to win the game. But we didn’t have the clarity of chances. It was still a big step forward. It’s about not losing a game like that, but then getting a point with good remaining defense in the important situations and defended well. We’ll take the point with us today. It was also important to keep a clean sheet – even if it took far too long to get the first clean sheet.“

Clemens Riedel:

„Of course we wanted to win. Everything was set up. Saturday night, 8.30pm, floodlit game. But we finally kept a clean sheet. And the result was okay. Münster closed the spaces between the chains very well and the field very well. We had to play a lot from the outside and get crosses, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to score a goal. It was important that we had good protection despite our dominance, and we were able to do that for the most part. We’re going to Bremen and want to play good, courageous football there too. We’re on a really good path and we’ll continue on this path.“

Darmstadt's 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher SC also ended any remaining theoretical hopes the South Hessian club had of finishing the season in the top three. The loss at the Wildpark stadium served somewhat as a symbol for the past few weeks, during which SV 98 had only managed one point from five matches since the international break in March. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, the Darmstadt players addressed the assembled media representatives with mixed feelings.
