Lilien Defeated in Nürnberg
SV 98 must continue to wait for their first away point of the season. The Lilies were defeated 2-0 (0–0) by 1. FC Nürnberg, who currently sit second in the table.
As in their previous three competitive matches, the Lilies faced their opponent with a compact defensive shape. While 1. FC Nürnberg enjoyed a high share of possession, they struggled to create any real danger in front of the SV 98 goal. The sole exception was a corner kick in the 16th minute, which Hojae Lee inadvertently deflected toward his own goal, forcing a sharp save from Alexander Brunst. Two minutes later, the visitors from South Hesse threatened the hosts‘ goal themselves, but a shot by Weißhaupt was blocked by Janisch.
For the remainder of the first half, the two sides engaged in numerous duels, though neither team managed to carve out any significant scoring opportunities before the halftime whistle.
That changed after the break. In the 50th minute, the hosts put together an impressive passing sequence into the penalty area, where Piet Scobel fired the ball into the right corner—leaving Brunst with no chance. The Lilies responded with an attacking mindset; substitute Duijvestijn found himself in dangerous positions inside the box several times, but his attempts were either blocked, hit the side netting, or drifted just past the far post.
Milan Smit had the best chance to equalise in the 72nd minute, but his header from a Weißhaupt cross went too centrally, allowing Reichert to make the save. Just seconds later, Marco Richter forced another save from Reichert with a powerful strike.
The Lilies kept their foot on the gas, but their finishing let them down: Weißhaupt delivered another sharp cross in front of the goal, only for Ibrahim El Kadiri to be denied by Reichert from close range—a golden opportunity missed. SV 98 continued to play with an open, attacking approach, only to be punished by the hosts in the 88th minute. Brunst made an outstanding initial save during a counterattack, but Boving converted the rebound—which also proved to be the final goal of the match.
